About Rodney's Village

Rodney's Village was born from pain, but it is rooted in purpose. Founded in memory of Rodney J.B. Armstrong, a beloved son whose life was cut short by gun violence in 2020, our organization is a response to the heartbreak far too many families endure. In the wake of tragedy, Rodney's mother, Rafiah Muhammad-McCormick, made a promise to her son's siblings, nieces, nephews, and community: We will not let this loss be in vain. We will find purpose in our pain. That promise became Rodney's Village.

Our Mission

Rodney's Village stops violence through cultivating the community by providing young mothers and fathers with the knowledge and skills to raise emotionally intelligent children in a secure and prosperous environment—empowering them to invest in their neighborhoods for a healthier world.

Our Vision

We envision a world where no child has to grow up in fear, where every family has access to the tools they need to thrive, and where love and healing replace cycles of violence and neglect.

Who We Serve

We serve young parents ages 16 to 22, especially those navigating parenthood in the face of hardship, trauma, or violence. Whether impacted by poverty, system involvement, or a lack of emotional and mental health support—these parents are the heart of our work.

What We Do

Rodney's Village provides education and empowerment through:

• Informational workshops focused on parenting, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and access to resources.
• Community events and support circles that foster healing and solidarity.
• Future programming includes a 12-week cohort model that will offer wraparound training and peer support for young parents ready to break cycles and build brighter futures.
